Daviess-Martin County REMC is celebrating 10 years with no lost-time accidents. From August 15, 2015, to August 15, 2025, Daviess-Martin County REMC operated without a single lost time accident in the office or out on the job site.
In an industry where lineworkers regularly face unforgiving conditions, this milestone reflects a culture rooted in training, awareness, and teamwork.
What is a lost time accident?
A lost-time accident occurs when an employee’s injury results in missed workdays. Unfortunately, accidents in the electric utility industry can be common. Electricity is something that cannot be seen, making it dangerous to work with. That makes 10 years with no lost-time accidents a remarkable achievement.
“Safety is the number one priority at Daviess-Martin,” said Ryan Dant, CEO of Daviess-Martin County REMC. “Safety is what we are all about – doing what we do safely.”
Commitment to Safety
This achievement is credited to the ongoing investment in employee training and proper equipment. Daviess-Martin has implemented standardized operating procedures to ensure safety while working. Even though the equipment can be expensive, an accident costs far more in many ways.
“We worked with Indiana Electric Cooperatives and Hoosier Energy to provide extra training for our employees,” Dant said. This extra training is to educate employees about safety on the job, equipping them to prevent and respond to hazards in the field. This training goes beyond the standard to ensure the safety of all employees.
Accidents aren’t limited to outdoor work, either. The last lost-time accident at Daviess-Martin occurred in the office, a reminder that safety procedures matter as much indoors as they do on a job site.
Why this matters
Ten years with no lost-time accidents means fewer injuries and uninterrupted service for members. This is a reflection of the cooperative’s commitment to its employees, their families, and the communities they serve.
In an industry where hazards are a part of the job, maintaining this level of safety for a decade is a testament to their training, awareness, and dedication.
“I am proud of everyone at Daviess-Martin, they all played a part to where we are today,” said Dant. “Our goal is to be saying this again in 10 more years.”
