If you could instill one piece of wisdom in every new employee, what would it be?
Take advantage of every opportunity to learn and grow in your career at the co-op. There are so many education and training options available to help you grow personally and as a member of the co-op team. Never underestimate the power of networking. Learn from your peers and be willing to share your experiences with others – it’s the co-op way!
How do you wind down after work?
As an introvert, I need quiet time to recharge. My favorite way to unwind is relaxing at home and binge-watching Netflix. Some of my favorite shows to binge are Virgin River, Sullivan’s Crossing, Heartland, Sweet Magnolias, and Gilmore Girls.
What is your favorite moment working at an electric cooperative?
I have several, but they mainly involve our youth and community programs. Knowing that I have made a difference in the lives of our youth or community is very rewarding to me, whether it is being involved in youth programs like scholarships, Youth Tour, and camp or in community programs like Operation Round Up, Community Day, or safety demonstrations. It makes me proud to be part of an electric co-op that values giving back as one of our core principles.
Tell us something surprising about you?
I’m a twin—yes, there are two of me! My sister and I are fraternal twins, and I’m often asked what it’s like to be a twin. My usual response is that I don’t really know what it’s like not to be one. Growing up, we shared just about everything, and today we still share a very close bond and friendship.
Tell us about your pets.
My husband and I have recently become empty nesters, so to fill that void, I got a new puppy! Her name is Hazel (pictured below), and she is a Cavapoo, which is a mix of King Charles Cavalier Spaniel and Miniature Poodle. She keeps me busy, but she is the sweetest. We also have two outside cats, Claire and Chloe, who love to pick on Hazel any chance they get.
What is the hardest thing about being a leader?
For me, the hardest part of being a leader is the constant balancing act. There are times when I have to make difficult or unpopular decisions, and at the same time, I’m mindful of maintaining trust and keeping my team engaged. I also find it challenging, but also rewarding, to support individuals with different needs, expectations, and comfort levels with change, while still moving the team forward together.
