Energy Growth Task Force

Indiana is developing a State Energy Growth Plan to address the state’s electricity needs through 2030 and beyond, with a focus on meeting growing demand while maintaining reliability, affordability, and economic competitiveness. The Strategic Energy Growth Task Force, established by Gov. Braun in June 2025, is leading this effort. John Cassady, CEO of Indiana Electric Cooperatives, represents IEC and our member cooperatives on the task force.

The task force met three times in 2025 to examine Indiana’s energy landscape, projected load growth, regulatory impacts, and infrastructure needs. Key themes included significant demand growth from data centers and large industrial users, the need for proactive generation and transmission planning, and managing cost impacts on ratepayers. Members also discussed manufacturing competitiveness, regulatory uncertainty, and the long-term role of nuclear energy, with workforce, supply chain, and regulatory readiness identified as critical factors. An interim report was submitted at the end of 2025, and the task force will continue its work in 2026, with the final State Energy Growth Plan due by May 29, 2026.
