Over the past several months, IEC has taken important first steps toward shaping our next strategic plan, starting by listening. Through a statewide initial input survey of cooperative CEOs and directors, and a visioning session at the 2025 IEC Annual Meeting, members shared candid feedback on what’s working well, where expectations are evolving, and how IEC can best support cooperatives amid rapid industry change.

This early input reaffirmed the strong value IEC delivers today, particularly in advocacy, leadership development, safety, mutual aid, and convening. At the same time, members highlighted opportunities for greater clarity and leadership around emerging energy issues, broadband, workforce development, and long-term strategic direction. Just as importantly, they emphasized the need for continued unity, collaboration, and a clear statewide voice as Indiana’s electric cooperatives face growing complexity and opportunity.

These insights form the foundation for the next phase of the strategic planning process. In the months ahead, IEC will dig deeper through targeted surveys, focused discussions, and additional analysis to help clarify priorities, define boundaries, and translate member input into actionable strategies. This work will culminate in the identification of strategic imperatives, performance measures, and implementation plans that position IEC and its member cooperatives for success over the next three to five years.

This is a shared effort, and member engagement will remain central as we move from listening to shaping and, ultimately, to action. We look forward to continuing this critical conversation and building the future of IEC together.
