The Indiana Electric Cooperatives executive committee, leadership team, and management team met on July 9 to begin shaping the organization’s next strategic plan. The conversations were built on valuable feedback from members at the June regional meetings and from a staff survey. A high-level update is planned for the August board meeting.
At each of this year’s seven regional meetings, breakout groups contributed input to strategic planning by discussing three core questions: (1) what emerging issues and pressures face the co-ops, (2) what role (lead, convene, or support) IEC should play in each of them, and (3) where IEC should prioritize future investment across core programs. Every CEO and IEC board member in attendance had the opportunity to participate in the process, which began in December 2025 with a survey of about 50 directors and 20 CEOs and a facilitated visioning session led by Brian Singletary. Pressing and emerging issues identified during these stages included workforce shortages, broadband expansion, rising costs, mega-load opportunities, and rapid changes in the energy sector.
IEC regularly updates its strategic plan to set organizational priorities, focus energy and resources, and ensure employees and stakeholders are working toward common goals. The previous strategic plan was published in 2022.
Additional discussions and opportunities for feedback will continue over the coming months as IEC refines its strategic plan and implementation roadmap, with the goal of presenting a finalized set of objectives at the IEC Annual Meeting in December.
