This is an elective course for participants in the Cooperative Leadership Edge Program.* Facilitated by two finance professionals from Indiana electric cooperatives, this course covers what every co-op leader should know about accounting and finance. Participants will engage in a hands-on exploration of cooperative finance and investigate things like expenses, income statements, balance sheets, complete a simulation, and leave being able to tell the story of their cooperative from their Form 7.
*This is an elective course for participants in the Cooperative Leadership Edge Program but is open to all employees and directors
Learning Objectives
- Describe the components of an income statement
- Learn how to interpret a balance sheet
- Explore common assumptions in budgeting and the impact those have on the cooperative’s financial reports
- Identify how departmental operations impact the cooperative’s financial outcomes
